History

Years ago, a man named Pythagoras found
an amazing fact about right angle triangles:

He found that there was only 1 side that always the longest and opposite side with right angle in the right angle triangle.
He names that side as a hypotenuse.

He also found that triangle had a right angle (90°) and made a square on each of the three sides. Then the biggest square had the exact same areas as the other two squares put together!

It is called "Pythagoras Theorem" and
can be written in one short equation:

Notes :
c is the longest side of the triangle
a and b are the other two sides

Definition

Let's see if it really works using an example.

Example 1:

The length each side ‘blue right angle triangle’ are 3 cm, 4 cm and 5 cm. Prove the  Pythagoras Theorem  by using the area of the right angle triangle given.

Why Is This Useful?

If we know the lengths of two sides of a right angled triangle,
we can find the length of the unknown side.

(But remember it only works for right angled triangles!)
Now you can use algebra to find any missing value, as in the following examples:

Example 2 : Solve this triangle.

Example 3: Solve this triangle.

  Examples

It works the other way around too:
When the three sides of a triangle make a2 + b2 = c2,
then the triangle is right angled.

Reflections

First of all, our feelings of thankful to Allah S.W.T above all grants as we are able to complete our blogs as a task for subject technology and innovation in education (EDT5303).

Special thanks to our lecturer Mohd Azrul Azlan bin Abdul Hamid for his guidance and support we are able to finished as per planned. The opportunity of able to learn creating blog for the sake of teaching and learning process which one of the new invention in nowadays are really helpful.

As we may concern, our kids now have been exposed with so many types of technology, even a school kids now use the iphone or enroid handphone to connect to the internet searching for the information. In order to follow the technology in education, this purpose of study is really gave us a good benefit as students can learn more through the internet.

As per task given to us to create a blog, we were decided to share information of Pythagoras theorem which one of the topic that covers on mathematics syllabus for secondary schools. It’s containing notes, history, proving, examples, exercise and video as per requirement from the task.

This is a good practice to us and for all teachers so that it can help to attract our students to learn. Insya Allah, not only by this topic, we try to add in some more topics that relevant to secondary schools syllabus in future. Overall, this subject is fun and really useful to us.
